Formally recognized educational institutions in Japan are permitted to use copyrighted materials for educational purpose without express permission of the copyright holders under the Copyright Act, article 35 and 36 (Limitations and exceptions to copyright).

In recent years, advancements in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), including the rapid growth of the Internet and digitization of information have brought new ways of teaching/learning methods such as e-learning to frontline education.

Likewise, Admissions/Public relations within schools and universities are making rapid progress in developing new ways and means to provide access to information, such as by making past entrance examination papers available to view online, and in print.

Education itself is undergoing a major transition which is changing its entire environment. We will continue to promote the legitimate use of copyrighted materials by providing accurate and up to date information and copyright clearance services.
